Sampson was born on the 21st of July in 1971. He was the son of Francis Xavier Sampson (1946-2007) and Florence Ley. Sampson’s primary musical lessons as a child was lessons in piano by his mom. He recalls being around fiddlers who were popular throughout Cape Breton.
