    Benjamin C. Bradlee was born on August 26, 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Harvard University in 1942. Before becoming a reporter and editor at Newsweek and the Washington Post, he worked for the State Department in Paris.

    As a reporter in the 1950s, he became close friends with then-Senator John F. Kennedy.

  • In 1960, he toured with both Kennedy and Richard Nixon in their presidential campaigns. He later wrote a book, Conversations with Kennedy, recounting their relationship during those years. He was the executive editor of the Washington Post from 1968 to 1991.
